The other day I reported that Will Smith, in collaboration with Steven Spielberg, was going to remake the classic OLDBOY. Now Smith is producing a remake of THE KARATE KID starring his son Jayden. No word yet on whether or not this will be before or after they build castles in the sky. From Variety:
Variety confirms that Jaden will star in a “refashioned” remake of the 1980’s classic. It gets worse, the film will be set in an exotic locale, with a shoot planned for next year in Beijing. Chris Murphy’s screenplay is said to “borrow elements” from the original film, and is not a strict remake.
If you see Will Smith on the street please tell him to stop this. We don’t need a new OLDBOY. We like OLDBOY. That brilliant film is not going to be improved upon by somebody who produced “Willenium”. We like THE KARATE KID. It’s got Ralph Macchio, Mr. Miyagi, “You’re the Best Around”, “Sweep the LEG!!”. It’s fine the way it is. It’s not going to be improved upon by the star of HITCH. And he’s putting his awful son in it? Ugh.
