Major props to Apple for publicly supporting equal rights for all Americans. From their startpage today:
No on Prop 8
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.
More companies should be doing this and it’s great that a high profile company like Apple is taking a stand. Their press release is correct. It’s not about politics, it’s about civil rights. The fact that there is a measure on the table that would essentially label homosexuals second class citizens offends me. And it should offend you. For those who are thinking about skipping voting day because it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion which candidate is going to win California, please make your way to the polls next Tuesday and vote no on Prop 8.
